Over the next few days, we will be playing the role of time travel agents. As a travel agent, your group will research one of these kingdoms and present them to your classmates using a poster or travel brochure along with some sort of presentation (commercial, song, skit, or other activity). Each presentation will take 2-3 minutes.
Each student will get one plane ticket, and must choose one empire or kingdom to travel back in time to. After the presentations, you will choose the one empire/kingdom you would most like to visit and why. You must cite specific details you learned about the civilization from the presentation and materials.
As a time travel agent, tour job will be to:
- Identify what life was like in this kingdom or empire and find a way to present it as appealingly as possible. You should focus on the significant achievements or characteristics of your empire.
- Create a presentation (a commercial, sales presentation, song, or skit) to convince your classmates to pick your kingdom.
You’ve got deadlines. You will have one class period to conduct research on your empire or kingdom. You will have the weekend to brainstorm up catchy slogans and presentation ideas. You will also have one class period to create your poster and presentation.
Computer Lab research requirements:
On Friday, you will be working in the computer lab to conduct research with your group on your empire. You should do your own research, but discuss your findings with your group. Use the focus questions on your research sheet to know what information to focus on.
Here are several sources that you should rely on. It is ok to do google searches, but keep in mind what we discussed regarding online research and making sure that websites are valid:
TSS (bcpss.org) Go to the “student resources” in the top right corner. There you can use the various research sites to gather information on your empire.
History for Kids - http://www.historyforkids.org/
Wikipedia – this site should only be used in addition to other, more academic sites. It can be useful for pictures and/or additional information.
Fact Monster – this site looks kind of childish, but it has some great basic summaries of different empires http://www.factmonster.com
Encyclopedia.com – self-explanatory
