Final Exam Review Packet
I have taken all of my course materials and compiled them into one digital packet. When you click below, your computer will begin to download it. It is VERY LARGE – approx 122 MB, so it might take a few minutes to download. When it has fully downloaded, your computer will “unzip” the zip file and you will be able to see the Final Review for each Unit.
Click here to download the Final Exam Review Packet.zip
Please let me know if you have questions or problems accessing this.
P.S. Students are also free to bring me a flash drive and I will directly import the whole file onto your drive.
Using Tags to study for the Final Exam
Throughout the year, as I have been posting coursework and homework to our class site, I have also added a “tag” to each post. When you click on a tag, you will see every post and page that has the same label. So if you click Unit 3, you will get see everything that is related to Unit 3. BTW – this process is called “meta-tagging” and you probably see it a lot, and will definitely see it a lot more.
… go ahead, give it a try. You can click the spinning wheel to your right or you can scroll to the bottom to see the complete list of tags.
Saving Private Ryan on TNT!
In the tradition of me mentioning a movie in class and then it comes on TV, no sooner did I mention Saving Private Ryan last Friday in class than it is now on TNT tonight! 8PM
WWI Test Review Materials
Here are most of the presentations and materials used in Unit 7: WWI
Cold War Propaganda: Red Dawn & Rocky IV Trailers MUST WATCH!!
In class today, we talked about the Russian Revolution, and Russia in the modern world. To illustrate the Cold War, I talked about 2 movies that I watched growing up – Red Dawn, and Rocky 4.
Red Dawn is about a Russian invasion of a small town. They basically parachute in and start shooting up a school. As I described the movie, I think some of you didn’t believe me. Check out the trailer for the movie here. The trailer, btw, pretty much is all you need to see to get the gist of the movie.

Also, I was amazed as I watched the Rocky IV trailer to see how much it shows exactly what I was describing in class (except the steroid injections). Notice how they clearly pit Rocky as America vs. Ivan Drago the Soviet Union. Again, by the end of the movie, the crowd in Russia is chanting Rocky’s name because he shows so much heart and courage in facing Drago. Amazing example of pop media propaganda.

Headline – Malcolm X’s killer freed after 44 years
In class the last 2 days we’ve been discussing the concept of assassination and how the assassination of the Austro-Hungarian Archduke Franz Ferdinand sparked the conflict that led to WWI.
In our discussion, we spoke specifically about Malcolm X, and how he was assassinated. I found it interesting to read tonight that (the only apprehended) killer of Malcolm X is going free. Interesting that they don’t use the term “assassin”. I wonder why not?
