- Lingua Franca= is the name for languages ,such as English, that are spoken international. This term means language of the Franks, and was used for Arab traders during the Middle Age. It was used to help traders of different languages understand each other.
- Pidgin Language= is similar to Lingua Franca but is not as defined. This form of contact is created by two different languages combining a few of there grammar rules and Pidgin Langua.
- Usually lingua franca is spread by migration and military conquest, such as the spread of English through the Roman Empire.
- In the modern era English is spread through expansion diffusion.
- Expansion Diffusion= The spread of a trait through the effect of an idea, rather then relocation of people.
- Expansion Diffusion effects English in 2 ways: +English continuously changes through the diffusion of vocabulary, spelling, and pronunciation. +English words fuse with other languages.
