Ravenstein’s theories:
Most migrants relocate s short distance and remain within the same country.
Long-distance migrants to other countries head for major centers of economic activity.
International migration is permanent movement from one country to another, whereas internal migration is permanent movement within the same country. The father away a place is located, the less likely that people will migrant to it. International migrants are much less numerous than internal migrants. Within a country it is less traumatic familiar food, language, foods, broadcasts, literature, music and other social customs. Internal migration can be divided into two types:
Interregional migration is movement from one region to another, and intraregional migration is movement within one region. Historically, the main type of interregional migration has been from rural to urban areas in search of jobs, recently some developed countries have seen migration from urban to attractive rural areas.
